Hell . . .I’m Afraid of It!

When one is growing up, there are many places that we just stay away from because they make us afraid. It might be the old house at the end of the street, a dark basement, or a cemetery. As we get older we begin to see that there is really nothing to be afraid of in these places and our fears begin to go away.

There really is a place that all of us need to be afraid of, a place that all of us need to do everything we can to stay out of. I try each day to live for Jesus because I do not want to go to hell because I’m afraid of hell.

I’m afraid of hell because:

  1. It’s a real place.
    • It is not some imaginary place made up to scare us.
    • Jesus said that it is a real place (Mark 9:47)
  2. It’s an eternal place.
    • And these shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life (Matthew 25:46)
    • There will be no purgatory or temporary place to stay.
    • It is forever.
  3. It’s a terrible and tragic place.
    • A place of darkness (Matthew 25:30).
    • Without God, there is no light (I John 1:5).
  4. It’s a place of fire.
    • Those that do iniquity shall be cast into the furnace of fire, Jesus said (Matthew 13:42).
  5. It’s a place of eternal pain.
    • Those there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth (Matthew 13:42). * Pain will be there and will never go away.
    • There is no relief in hell. When thirsty, no drink; when hungry, no food; when tired, no sleep.
    • Once one ends us in hell, there is no hope of leaving.

I’m afraid of hell because some Christians will be there!

Jesus commands us to do His will. (Matthew 7:21).

Some Christians:

  1. Will leave the Lord (John 5:19-20).
  2. Be lukewarm in their service (Revelation 3:15-16).
  3. Will practice things that are forbidden (Galatians 5:19-21) 4. Will not grow in the Lord (II Peter 1:5-8)
  4. Will not repent of their sins (I John 1:2-9)
  5. Will not read and study their Bibles.

Conclusion: Now you know why I am afraid of hell. I hope that you are also, and together we can strive to follow Jesus and live eternally in Heaven and not hell.
