There is Only One Baptism Today
There are very few, if any religious groups today that do not teach some form of baptism in their religious practices. The question for all of us today is “What does the Bible teach about baptism and how do I follow it?”
There are at least 7 different types of baptisms mentioned in the New Testament. There is John’s baptism in Matthew 3:6 and Holy Spirit baptism in Acts 2:4.
How many baptisms are there for us to follow today? Read Ephesians 4:5.
The word baptism means the process of immersion or submersion.
This one baptism, this immersion, was to be done in what? Read Acts 8:36.
What was the purpose of this one baptism in water? Read Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16.
After baptism, what other things begin in your spiritual life? Read Romans 6:3-4 and Galatians 3:27.
Who does God say are those who are ready to obey this one baptism? Read John 3:15-16, Luke 13:3, Acts 8:37.
- The one baptism God commands us to follow today is for:
- Those that believe that Jesus Christ is the only savior (John 3:16)
- Those that have repented (Luke 13:3)
- Those that will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Acts 8:37)
- Those are then immersed in water (Acts 8:36)
- For the remission of their sins (Acts 2:38)
- They are then save (Mark 16:16)
- They have now put on Christ (Gal 3:27)
- They now begin their new life (Romans 6:4)
Read Ephesians 2:8. It is then because of our obedience to God’s command to be baptized that we are saved by the grace of God. We do not deserve it but God bestows His grace upon His faithful and obedient servant.
