There's Two Sides to Everything

I have lived in numerous states and lived in two different countries but I can say without any hesitation that it rains the most in the state of Alabama. Now rain is like so many things we find in this world. It has a good side and a bad side. Rain is good for the farmer and for helping things to grow. It helps our rivers, streams and lakes to keep flourishing. While on the other hand, rain makes our roads wet and driving hazardous. When rain comes, it can cancel various outdoor activities. The sun also has a good and bad side. It can bring light for us to see and helps things in nature to grow. It can also kill a plant if it has too much sun and it can really give us a bad sunburn.

In life we face things that have two sides to them. That’s why God expects us to examine all things that we do. Colossians 3 verse 2 tells us “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the Earth.” We must always make sure that we make the right choices which are the good things and flee the bad things.

Take for instance the need for one to be guided by the Bible in life. The good side is it’s complete and furnishes us with all we need. It tells us how to worship and praise the Lord each day. The bad side that occurs is when we do not understand there was an old law for the Jews only and today there is the new law of Christ which is for everybody. In Galatians 3:28 we are told “There is neither Jew or Greek, slave nor free, there is neither male or female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” We all need to be excited that we have the Bible, but we must use it properly and how it is to be interpreted today. Another good thing God wants for us today as members of His church is to find a local church in our neighborhood to be a member of and attend faithfully. God commands us to not forsake the assembling together of the saints because this is a good thing. Today the Brookhill church is assembling as a local church of Christ to worship and praise the Lord as He has commanded. The bad side of assembling is when we attend a local church that was not started by the Lord. It also does not follow God’s instructions on how to worship Him. Matthew 15:9 describes this type of worship as “in vain, they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” We all need to get excited about attending and worshiping with a local church God approves of so we can worship in an approved manner.

Money has a good and bad side. It’s good to work honestly and be paid and then use that money to glorify God. It is not so good to love money and to heap up our money for ourselves and never share it with anyone else. God has blessed us all with a lot of resources that we are to use to glorify God because that is the good side of money.

Yes, life offers us many things that have two sides to them. May we always choose the good side and not the bad. Remember that God gives us a choice each day to choose either the good side or bad side of any decision we make. That reminds me that on the last day, judgment day, when God will also have to make a choice. That choice is whether we will spend eternity in Heaven which is the good side or eternity in hell which is the bad side.
