When Will it All End?

As we go through life, we like to know when an activity is going to end. We ask at the game, “How much time is left?” We also ask questions like, “Where does this road end?” “When will the movie end?” It’s reassuring to know when the end of something is coming. There are a few things in life that we would like to know when they will end but all we know is that they will end one day. We would all love to know when our life will come to an end but all we are told is that it is appointed unto man once to die. We would like to know how long til we feel better when we are sick. To religious people, the most important question is when will the Lord return and this Earth and all we can see comes to an end?

The Bible does give a plain and simple answer to when everything will come to an end. It does not give us a specific day or time but be assured that it tells us that there is going to be an end. The Bible refers to the end of time as the day of the Lord. In the Old Testament the day of the

Lord was a time when sin had reached a climax amongst the people and God was ready to physically ready to punish the sinners. In the New Testament, the day of the Lord refers to the time when Jesus will return and judge the dead from the living. II Peter 3:8-10 tells us “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance but the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise and the elements will melt with fervent heat, both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.” As you can see, the Lord will come back like a thief in the night. We can know for sure if someone tells us they know the day that Jesus is returning that it can’t be true because thieves don’t tell us when they are coming.

God does not want us to spend all our time trying to figure out when the end will be. He would rather have us make sure we are ready spiritually when that day occurs. We all want to hear at the end the words found in Matthew 25:21, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.” In the book of Jonah, the profit asked the people “Who can make it through the day of the Lord?” God’s answer is plain. You can’t make it through physically but you can live through it spiritually and spend eternity in heaven.

So when is the end of the world? God doesn’t tell us exactly when but he does promise that it is coming. Are you ready for the last day? If not, become a Christian by being baptized as a repentant believer and if you have left the Lord come back by confessing your sins. There’s a great day coming, a great day coming. Let’s all get ready for the end.
