Directions
When I lived in East Tennessee, I visited Kingsport, Tennessee five times. Believe it or not, I got lost five times. Each time, I was told that these were the correct directions to where I was going. The problem was street names had changed, land marks were no longer there and the directions were not correct. When we talk to people about the Bible, we are talking about a loving God who gives all of us correct directions for our life. In the book of Deut. 4:2 God’s people were told not to add or take away from God’s directions. In the New Testament II Timothy 3:16-17, God tells us here that his directions are perfect and complete.
When our friends give us directions to go someplace, they can be at times very complicated and hard to understand. This is not so with God’s directions. In Eph 3:4, we are told “When you read you can understand.” So you can see when God gives directions, they are perfect and easy to understand.
Then why is it people are lost spiritually and have not followed God’s directions to heaven.
- They have never read the directions in the Bible. (This is not God’s fault.)
- Some people are lost, because they have taken God’s simple directions and turned them into a complex map. They’ve listened to theologians, scholars, preachers who have taken God’s simple commands and made us feel like unless we can speak Hebrew and Greek, there is no way to understand God’s directions. The Bible is written on a sixth grade level. It is more important for one to have a good heart and mind than a degree in religion.
- Some people are lost spiritually because they began to follow God’s directions but they put down the spiritual map. Jeremiah told us that it was not in man to direct his own steps. To stay on course, the road to heaven we must look at God’s directions every day.
If you and I want to be saved and live a faithful life to God, we must follow His simple directions. One must believe and be baptized to be saved Mark 16:16. We must continue to add to our faith each day. God assures us if we will be steadfast and immovable from his directions, we will be faithful servants of His. If you are on the road to heaven, it’s because you have been following God’s directions. Keep it up. If you are not on the road to heaven, it’s time to open up God’s spiritual map, the Bible, and find God’s way to heaven.
