If You Fall Down, You Have to Get Up

In this past year, we all fell down in our service to the Lord. Some fell down for a short while, while others fell down and still haven’t got up. Do you realize how many times you fell down while learning how to walk? The number was very high but you kept on trying until one day you learned how to walk. In our life as a Christian, we fall down daily and sin as we strive to follow Him. After we are saved and begin our new walk as a Christian, there will be many stumbles along the way. I Thess. 2:12 tells us that we should walk worthy of God. In this walk, we are going to fall down. Do you realize there are over 4000 warnings in the Bible showing the possibility of stumbling or falling from one’s walk in the Lord?

Since God warns us that we are going to fall and sin in our daily walk, what can we do? We must be determined and prepared to get up when we fall down. Remember the old saying “Try, try again.” Try and figure out why you failed. Too many times we sin and fall away from the Lord because we listen to others rather than the Lord. Matthew 15:14 tells us “Let them alone they are blind leaders of the blind and if the blind leads the blind both will fall into a ditch.” Sometimes we fall because we think we are strong enough not to fall. Hebrews 3:12 tells us “Beware brethren lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in falling from the living God.”

Sometimes our falling from the Lord and not getting up is the result of not just one sudden fall spiritually but a gradual process. The Bible describes this as drifting away from the Lord. When we gradually begin to read our Bibles less, pray less, worship less, we are participating in the process of spiritually drifting and falling away from God. That’s why Hebrews 2:1 warns us “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard lest we drift away.”

If you have fallen today in your service to the Lord, realize your spiritual condition, repent and get up. If you are spiritually drifting away from the Lord, it’s not too late and repent and get up. For all of us, to deep from falling away from the Lord, we must :

  1. Let God speak to you daily in His word Psalms 119:11
  2. You speak to God in prayer each day Phil. 4:6
  3. Do something for God each day that glorifies Him I Cor 10:31

It’s no fun to fall down and have a physical injury, but it is tragic for someone to fall down spiritually and not get up because it carries eternal consequences.
