Are You Devoted to Jesus?
People are devoted to a lot of things in life. They are devoted to their family, friends, job, numerous things. To be devoted means to give or apply one’s time, attention or self entirely to our particular activity, cause or persons. All the people’s activities we mentioned previously take up their time, their abilities, their monies, and many other personal things.
In the New Testament times, we read of the Jews and Greeks who were devoted religiously. The problem was their devotion was not always to the God of the Bible or it was not devoted all the time. In Acts 17:22, “the people were in all things very religious.” They were devoted to all kinds of Gods even the God of the Bible.
Today people are devoted to so many different types of religions and churches. We might even say there is a boom in religious devotion. The sad reality is that their devotion is often times misled and not directed to the one true God. In Acts 2:35 we are told that here on the day of pentecost there are many devoted religious people from every nation. Peter began to preach to these devoted religious people about the only savior Jesus Christ. He told them Jesus was the one they must devoted their life to. This message that Peter preached pricked their hearts and in verse 37 they asked, “What should we do?” These devout religious people needed guidance and instruction on who to direct their religious devotion to. In verse 38 they were told “repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.” We are told 3000 souls were baptized and added to the church. These 3000 souls now were ready to begin to devote their lives to Jesus.
In the world today there are millions and millions of devout people who need the same guidance and instruction on whom to devote their life to. In Acts 17:30-31 we are told that if we are not fully devoted to Jesus, we need to repent as he will be the judge of the world on the last day. We must show in our life and teach others the saving faith which comes by hearing the word of God (Romans 1:16).
Are you devoted to Jesus Christ? That’s the only devotion that will save you on judgment day.
