Bad language and cussing
I can’t believe what I hear these days in the movies and tv shows and other forms of
entertainment. Swearing, cussing, foul language, whatever you want to call it, seems to be
spoken by too many people in too many places. In the sporting world, there are too many
coaches who swear. In families, you have parents swearing and children following their
example. In everyday activities, you have drivers cussing out one another. Customers are
swearing at store workers. In our personal lives, you have people swearing because their bills
are too high or the weather is bad or their car won’t start. Swearing, cussing, and foul language
need to stop.
The sad reality is it even shows it’s ugly and foul mouth in christians. We may not use the “big
words” but we use suggestive words and even foul words when life gets upsetting to us. God
must look down and hear his people and all his people and say “You need your mouths washed
out with soap.” Eph. 4:29 tells us “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only
such a word as is good for edification, according to the need of the moment, that it may give
grace to the hearer.”
God does not teach us in the Bible to use bad language. How can we tell the Lord how much
we love him and praise him and the next moment use the same tongue to spew out foul
language. We can’t. Just read James 3:9-10.
How can we get cussing and bad language out of our life? See it as a sin. Realize that foul
language never builds up or encourages anyone. Foul language will be detrimental to the one
speaking it and the one that it is directed to. Just think that some cussing even involves the use
of the Lord’s name. Anyone who uses God’s name in such a manner needs to repent and
repent quickly.
I don’t know what starts a person cussing and using bad language as part of their life but it’s
time for everyone to stop now. Christians we are commanded to glorify God in all that we do.
Cussing has no place in one’s life as they glorify God. May we all use words that show the
holiness of God and the pursuit of holiness in our lives.
