Why are there so many churches?
Have you ever wondered why there are so many churches in North Alabama? Is it because we have so many different types of people due to ethnic backgrounds or economic levels? We all realize that people have different likes and dislikes but is it alright in God’s eyes to have all these different churches? They almost all claim to be the church of the Bible and their teachings and practices are pleasing to God. Have you ever wondered how many churches did Christ establish and does He approve of all the different churches?
In Matthew 16:18 Jesus tells us that He will build His church. He is the founder of the only church God approves of. Let me ask you a question. Who is the founder of the church you are a member of? Jesus established His church in the first century. When was the church you are a member of founded? In Ephesians 4:4 God tells us “There is one body.” Ephesians 1:22-23 states that the church is His body. Therefore the Lord established only one church and that is the only church God approves of. He has instructed us how to enter His church, how to be added to His church, how to worship in His church and the work His church is to be involved in.
It’s so important for all of us to investigate what the church we are a member of is involved in. Good intentions do not take the place of obeying God. We must have both zeal that follows God’s instructions. In Matthew 7:21-23, we are told one must obey the Father’s will to enter into Heaven. This clearly teaches one must obey God and not man to enter Heaven.
God established only one church or one family. It is made up of those who obey His plan of salvation which He teaches in Mark 16:16 that “He who believes and is baptized will be saved.” One can clearly see why there are so many churches not only in North Alabama but around the world. The answer is people have not read and studied what God has said about His only church. May we all take time to find out what God has instructed about His church. There is only one true church and God expects all of us to find it, be a faithful member of it til our last breath.
