Present Your Bodies a Living Sacrifice

God expects us to use our physical abilities in our service to Him. It is one thing to sing “to the work, to the work, we are servants of God” and it is another thing to actually do the work. It’s not just enough to visit a sick friend, and see dirty dishes piling up there, a house that needs cleaning, and food that needs cooking and do nothing but say on your way out “if I can do anything to help give me a call.” In the Old Testament God’s people gave sacrifices to show their obedience and love for God. In the New Law Jesus expects us to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.

  • 1 John 3:18 tells us “My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
  • Romans 16:1-2 tells us “I commend unto Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.”
  • Romans 12:1 tells us “I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

It’s reasonable for God to expect us to use our physical abilities, time, and even our money in our service to Him and to others. Does it make any sense to be a servant of God and not help others? Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of Faith(Galatians 6:10).
