Spiritual Meals
I love to eat. I know, I said it. I love to eat, but I’m not alone. Everyone loves to eat. We feed our body 21 times a week, and most of the time, we eat more than we need. If we miss a meal, we feel bad and even make it up at the next meal.
Let me ask you a question. How many spiritual meals did you have this week? How many times did you drink of the word of God? In John 4:14, Jesus says, “but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
In John 6:35, Jesus also says, “I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
We all realize we will die physically without food. What about our spiritual life? Jesus tells us without feeding on His words, we will die spiritually. So what can we do to eat spiritual meals everyday?
- Read your Bible.
- Listen to sermons on CDs.
- Attend Bible classes here at Brookhill.
- Study your Bible at home.
Sometimes we say to a child whom we have not seen for a while, “Boy, you have grown!” “What have you been eating?” When was the last time someone said to you, “I can see you are growing in your service to God.” I Peter 2:2 tells us “As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.”
May we all remember as we give thanks for all the physical meals we have each week, that there are more important meals that we all need to have. Those meals involve the eating and drinking of the word of God. I don’t know about you, but I’m hungry and I need a spiritual meal right now.
