What Happens After I Am Baptized

We live in a world that is full of instructions. When you buy a car, electrical appliances or a toy, all come with instructions on how to operate them properly. The Bible is also an instruction book. It teaches how to live properly in God’s eyes.

It instructs us how to become a Christian. Mark 16:16 and Acts 2:38

It also instructs us on how to live a righteous life after we are saved. The Bible nowhere teaches that just because you are a Christian, or are saved, that you automatically make it into heaven. The Bible instructs us to grow in the Lord and add to our faith. (II Peter 1:5-9). Jesus instructed the apostles to go into all the world and teach the people about Jesus, baptize them for the remission of sins and then continue to teach them. (Matthew 28:18-20).

What are some things the Bible instructs one to do after they are baptized?

  1. You should rejoice - be happy. Acts 8:39 - The eunuch was happy after his baptism. Your sins have been forgiven. Your new life has begun.
  2. You should know you are now in the Lord’s family. Matt. 6:24 - You cannot serve two masters - you chose Jesus. Gal. 3:27 - You put Christ in your life. God is now your master. You are a servant of his.
  3. You should be dedicated to serving God. Like anything that you want to be successful in, you must have a positive attitude with regards to serving God. Our dedication is shown by our willingness to obey His commands. John 2:26 - faith without works is dead.
  4. You should assemble with the local Christians.
    1. It is a command. Hebrews 10:25
    2. Sing, encourage and teach other Christians. Colossians 3:16
    3. To be under the oversight of elders.
    4. To be encouraged by other saints.
    5. To learn in the Bible studies.
    6. To be with those who you hope to be with in eternity.
  5. You should let your light shine in the world. Matt. 5:16. If you live a godly life you will appear different from society. Your example will be a good teaching tool for you to use in telling others about Jesus.
  6. You should now have an eternal goal. Heaven is now your goal. Your affections are set on things above. Colossians 3:1-2.
