Nowhere I’d Rather Be
Scripture: Psalm 80-85
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than to dwell in the tents of the wicked. Psalm 84:10
There are so many reasons why we are blessed to assemble with the saints.
- We are encouraged by our brothers and sisters.
- Parents can pass their faith on to their children.
- Husbands and wives draw closer as they share their faith.
- We can serve those who are hurting with emotional and spirtual support.
But the greatest blessing when we assemble together for worship is communion with God. Consider these psalms:
One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple. Psalms 27:4
O God, You are my God; earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You;
My flesh faints for You, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary, beholding Your power and glory.
Because Your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live; in Your name I will lift up my hands.
Psalm 63:1-4
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
Psalm 122:1
Aren’t we blessed? Worship on this side of eternity is a foretaste of what we’ll experience in heaven. In worship God has given us the opportunity to commune in close fellowship with Him. And that’s a little piece of heaven on earth.
Father, we thank You for the privilege we have to gather with Your people and praise and worship You!
I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”
BROOKHILL'S THEME FOR AUGUST: Spend more time with Christians
"Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and good deeds. You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing. But you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the day coming." Hebrews 10:24, 25 ICB
