Building God's House
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 2-5
"But who is able to build Him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain Him? Who am I to build a house for Him, except as a place to make offerings before Him?" 2 Chronicles 2:6
These words from Solomon are echoed in the book of Acts by both Stephen and the apostle Paul (Acts 7:48, 17:24). Instead, we are told that we, as God’s people, are the house where God has chosen to dwell (1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19, Ephesians 2:21-22, 1 Peter 2:4-5).
What that means is that we are building God a different kind of house. Solomon built God a house with stones and precious metals. We are building God a house with human hearts. What are some ways we can build on God’s house?
- Being a good parent/mentor. Spend time with your kids and use that time wisely teaching them about God. If you don’t have kids of your own, find a child into whom you can invest your time and energy.
- Teaching others the gospel. Tell others about what God has done for you in your life. Share the good news of Jesus Christ with others.
Father, who are we that we should be involved in the great work You have left us? Help us to invest all our energy into building a house for You to dwell in!
"As you come to Him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 2:4-5
